From the article:
Sen. John Kerry has cancelled a planned campaign appearance today on behalf of a Democratic candidate in Minnesota, following the political firestorm stirred by his comment about the uneducated ending up "stuck in Iraq.'' But the GOP is not letting go, still demanding an apology from Kerry today as it circulates a videotape of his remark.
The campaign of Democrat Tim Walz for Congress in Minnesota today made a terse announcement about its planned rally in Mankato: "KERRY UNABLE TO ATTEND MANKATO RALLY.'' Kerry appears unable to apologize, too, the Republican National Committee complains -- though Kerry maintains that it is President Bush who owes an apology to American troops for his conduct of the war in Iraq.
Kerry maintains that he does not want to become a "distraction'' for the Democratic Party's campaigns in their closing days. That probably won't prevent him from a tour of television news shows today, but it has sidelined him on the campaign trail. Tim Waltz's planned rally at the Taylor Center at Minnesota State University in Mankato today will go on as planned at noon -- sans Kerry.
