That is odd. On a PC, the fan is controled by the BIOS, not the OS. Why does MAC control the fan in the OS?

It's Mac, not MAC.

From the article: "It appears that the fans in Macs do indeed go on regardless of which OS is running, though there is apparently some concern about how the fans are regulated by software over time."

So, the bios does have some control over the fans.
